Light touch/Myofascial release therapy
I practice Light Touch myofascial release which is a gentle form of hands on treatment that is effective for many types of injuries and symptoms, especially chronic pain. My therapy consists of a 1 1/2 assessment/interview to determine how to approach your specific symptoms so that we can develop an appropriate treatment plan to address your issues.
I am located at Apex Orthopeadic Rehabilitation located at 27 Dellridge Lane, Bedford, Nova Scotia and our contact number is 902-835-1494.
Expectations:
You will receive a phone call from our clinic to book a time for your assessment. You will be notified by email with confirmation of your assessment time and asked to fill out an intake and consent to treatment form. Please return that to us by email ahead of your appointment if possible or bring with you to your appointment. Please bring any relative documentation regarding your symptoms including a MD’s prescription (if necessary), imaging reports, pharmacologic information, etc. and a pair of shorts and a sports bra (as appropriate.). Please contact us if you have any questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is fascia?
What is Light touch/myofascial release?
This release takes the pressure off tissues that have been affected by the binding tension of tight fascia thereby easing pain, tension and restriction of movement.
How is a MFR treatment done (applied?) and what does it feel like?
There is no oil used as in massage and the patient is clothed at all times (shorts, sports bra/tank top as appropriate).
How is it different from other therapies?
Who would benefit from MFR therapy?
Can I call directly to make an appointment or so I need a referral?
What do I need to bring?
How many sessions will it take for me to feel better?
Each patient has their own unique reasons for being referred but it is usually because they are experiencing long term pain and dysfunction in their body. If you have been in pain for a long time, realistically it will most likely take some time to for the treatment to help relieve your pain and restore your function.
Unfortunately there are no quick fixes and that is because your brain would not be able to store this much informational change and keep the changes made from a ‘quick fix’ that are required for you to feel better on a permanent basis. As the brain shifts and makes permanent changes in a slow and steady pace, there is a greater chance that positive gains will remain permanent.
